Getting The Most Out Of Your Apartment Lighting
When people decide to first move to an apartment they’re often shocked by the amount (or lack of) natural light there is. Apartments by their very nature often have fewer windows and this means less natural light flooding into the building. As a result many people resort to having to have lights on during hours of daylight. Clearly this can be costly. With this in mind, let’s have a look at how you can get the most out of your apartment and save you a load of cash in the long run when you choose your lighting wisely.
These are two rooms that often have the least natural light. Some might contain small windows, but generally speaking, they don’t create enough light on their own. For this reason you might want to consider recessed lighting. Most utilise LED bulbs so they’re both energy efficient and extremely long lasting (on average they last 10-20 times longer than a standard halogen bulb). They’re also designed to provide maximum lighting in enclosed spaces so they are perfect for apartment kitchens and bathrooms.
If you have a small terrace or balcony and you don’t have any form of outside lighting, then you might want to rig up some simple fairy lights or some common or garden solar lighting. Again it’s a relatively inexpensive option and one that will set the scene for a romantic meal or simply give you enough light to see your way around.
Apartment living rooms generally contain one of the larger windows so there should be a good degree of natural light coming in. This being the case why not have a dimmer switch fitted so that you can control your main and side lighting? This way during the day, if you do find that you need a little extra light, then you don’t always have to have it full on. Finally if you have a desk or small table then you might want to invest in some smaller LED desk lamps. These kick out a surprising amount of light and are great to read by, yet they burn a lot less electricity than their incandescent halogen cousins.
